Chennai’s Surge

Tamil Nadu is a fast growing economy. It has gifted the world a canon of classical Sangam literature. Everything South Indian has its origins here. Modern Tamil Nadu is known for its socially responsible and sustainable economy, which guarantees balanced and inclusive growth.

Chennai serves as both Tamil Nadu's capital and, as it is located on the coast of the Bay of Bengal, as the gateway to South India. The city is as much a centre for literature, music and dance, as it is for economy, industry, education and health care. It serves as a global hub for human resources in knowledge industries. Chennai is well-known for its digital economy and boasts of a thriving digital start-up ecosystem. The city is also a filmmaking centre.

The state government, led by Chief Minister Thiru M.K. Stalin, is making significant strides in promoting publishing and reading culture in the state. It is also ushering in a new library movement. Nearly every town with a population of more than a hundred thousand people now has its own edition of a book fair. Large libraries are being built and filled with the most up-to-date knowledge resources. The Chennai International Book Fair is the latest step towards establishing Chennai and Tamil Nadu as global centres of knowing, sharing and creating.
